Wilson King Cunningham
Beloved Husband, Father, Stepfather, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Innovator, and Friend
July 2,1939 – October 17, 2025
Wilson King Cunningham, of Acworth, GA, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age of 86. A brilliant mind, loving family man, and true original, Will left behind a legacy of innovation, laughter, and love that touched countless lives.
A proud graduate of Georgia Tech, Will dedicated his career to the world of software development. He spent many good years with Scientific Games and later went on to found his own company, The Game Plan, which specialized in lottery software and played a pivotal role in launching numerous careers—including that of his son, Lance. Will spent many years traveling the country and the world, helping to set up lottery systems and sharing his deep expertise with others. Known for his sharp intellect and pioneering spirit, Will was not only ahead of his time—he helped define it.
But Will’s accomplishments extended far beyond his professional life. He was a deeply philosophical thinker, a man with a wicked sense of humor, and someone who never hesitated to show up for the people he loved. Whether offering advice, a well-timed joke, or simply his presence, he was always there.
Will had a zest for life and a passion for adventure. During his life, he enjoyed golf, snow skiing, boating, and riding his Gold Wing motorcycle through the wide-open roads of the American West. He embraced every new piece of technology that came along—often being the first to own it, master it, and then quietly impress everyone around him with how effortlessly he made it work.
Will and his wife Joan shared over a decade of love and laughter together. Their partnership brought joy, peace, and countless happy memories. To his grandchildren, he was “Grandpa” — the one who never missed a ballgame, birthday, or holiday. Will brought fun and heart to every moment he spent with his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Greene; his son, Lance Cunningham (Chris); his grandchildren, Tyler (Taylor), Grady and Brooke; his great-granddaughter, Collins Grace; and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who were lucky to know him.
Will will be remembered for his intelligence, his kindness, his humor, and the countless lives he touched—both personally and professionally. He leaves behind a world made better by his presence and richer from his contributions.
A celebration of Will’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at West Cobb Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm and the service will begin at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to do something Will would have appreciated: check in on a neighbor, cheer for someone you love, tell a witty joke, or spend a little extra time with your family.
