Vevie Hays Heins, age 76, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, May 4, 2026 at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Rorie officiating.
Born on August 19, 1949, at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Vevie was the daughter of the late William Hays, who passed before her birth, and Margaret Culver, who later married Vernon Culver and was lovingly raised by them with her brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 22 years, Richard W. Heins, Jr.; her sister and best friend, Paula Kelly; and her parents.
Vevie had many roles in her life-wife, mom, grandmother (lovingly called “Gummie”), bookkeeper, caretaker, homemaker, and so much more. She held her family and her cherished “fur babies” close to her heart, loving them with a fierce and steady devotion. She found joy in spending time with family, watching science fiction series and movies, and always looked forward to her Monday visits to Chick-fil-a. She was intelligent, radiant, passionate, gifted, witty, and boundlessly generous to those fortunate enough to know her love.
She is survived by her children, Tiffany (Robert) Potter of Hiram and Meredith Runnels of Marietta; her grandsons, CJ Potter and Preston Runnels; and her great-granddaughter, Isabella Thomas.
Her spirit lives on in the love she gave so freely, and she will be deeply missed.
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.’” — John 11:25–26
