Theodore Isaac "Jack" Gentry, 94, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026. Born on January 20, 1932, in Beaverdam, Virginia, Jack lived a full and remarkable life defined by service, love, and an unwavering sense of integrity. Jack graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Virginia, and went on to attend Richmond Polytechnic Institute. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in July 1954. Following his military service, Jack built a distinguished career in management at CSX Transportation, from which he eventually retired.
On August 18, 1956, Jack married the love of his life, Marjorie Joan Napier. Together they raised two devoted daughters, Jackie and Jenny. Sadly, Joan passed away on April 7, 1990. In the midst of that loss, Jack found love again with Louise D. Parrott, and the two were married in October 1990. Louise brought renewed joy and companionship to his life, and they shared many wonderful years together. Jack was a rare man of southern grace and genuine integrity. He was fiercely independent, despised answering spam calls, and instinctively knew how to fix just about anything. His family lovingly called him the original "MapQuest" because he could give you directions to almost anywhere without hesitation. He was a wicked board game player and loved nothing more than spending time with his family, whether helping his daughters with automotive, house, or yard projects or cheering on the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and UGA football. Later in life, Jack and Louise traveled extensively across the United States and Europe, creating memories that his family will always cherish. He stayed active through Silver Sneakers and was a proud member of the South Cherokee County American Legion, often contributing to various veteran causes. Jack is survived by his wife, Louise Gentry; his daughters, Jenny L. Gentry and Jacqueline L. Gentry; and his stepson, Richard D. Parrott. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Joan Gentry; his mother, Virginia T. Gentry; his father, Theodore I. Gentry and three sisters, Dorothy Daniel, Ann Bracey and Virginia Wiley. Jack is also survived by a number of nieces whom he loved dearly.
A very special thanks to the team at Comfort Keepers of Marietta who helped care for both Jack and Louise during his final days. A special thanks to Dulce Perez who became a trusted part of Jack's family.
Jack's faith was a quiet and steady presence in his life, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is now at rest in the arms of the Lord. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 11:00 am Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia. Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville, Virginia, is handling the arrangements. A special thanks to West Cobb Funeral Home for arranging his transportation to Charlottesville, VA. Donations to your favorite veteran's assistance organization is much appreciated.
