Stephen “Steve” Alan Smith, age 61, of Taylorsville, Georgia, went to his heavenly home on January 4, 2026 with loving family and friends surrounding him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Currey Smith; nephew, Michael E. (Miranda) Smith, Jr.; nieces, Amanda Smith, Amber Smith; seven great nieces and nephews; two great, great nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Janet Currey; best friends, Tommy Smith and Chris Wooten; special family and friend, Howie Smith and Mark Fultcher. Steve was preceded in death by father, Howard Albert Smith; mother, Evelyn May Smith; and brother, Michael E. Smith, Sr..
A man of immense conviction and principle, Steve stood for his values and did not waver. He was self-employed in the service and maintenance industry, and the last 10 plus years worked servicing travel trailers. He was a mechanic, repairman, hunter, and sportsman. He enjoyed working on antique trucks/cars/race cars, helping others repair vehicles, go cart racing, founding member secretary and treasurer of the Southern Wheels Unlimited Car Club. He also found extraordinary joy leading the car club show to raise funds and collect toys for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. God gifted him with a mind and hands that could fix anything. In his words, “He could fix anything but a broken heart.” All endeavors were approached to do the best. Steve will be missed by numerous friends from many avenues of life.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at West Cobb Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverand K. J. Tart and Pastor Wesley Morris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
