Russell David Peer

October 6, 1940 — June 3, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we share Russell passed away on June 3, 2026. A Celebration of Life gathering will be Friday, June 12, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with a Honors Ceremony at 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.

Russ, lovingly known as “Butch,” was the middle child of five, born to Russell Benjamin and Anna Elenora Peer, who preceded him in death. A proud brother to Elenora, Kathleen, Patricia, and Thomas, he was always happiest when supporting his family. For more than 70 years, he faithfully honored his father’s legacy and helped lead the family reunion tradition—often rising at 4:00 a.m. to be at the park and ready to serve.

A deeply committed man of service, Russ proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class. While his official service lasted 5 years, 6 months, and 20 days, his devotion to his country never wavered throughout the rest of his life.

During his years of service, Russ was married to Lucielle Przygocki until the Lord called her home far too soon. Together they welcomed their son, Michael (Tammy). Later, Russ was blessed to find love again when Joan Berjeski entered his life. After a “long courtship”, she became his best friend, confidante, savior, and bride, and they shared 58 memory-filled years together.

Their family continued to grow with Russell (Judy) and Joannie (Aaron), forming a loving and close-knit family.

His moral compass was unwavering. He taught us right from wrong and showed us the importance of doing the right thing, even when no one was watching, all while sharing love and strength in every moment of every day.

In addition to playing chess, golfing, offering advice (whether it was asked for or not), and drinking the hottest, strongest black coffee available, Russ was always there for others—giving until his tank was empty, then somehow finding a way to give a little more.

In time, he earned the title of Grandpa—a role he cherished deeply. He proudly spoke to anyone who would listen about what all “his kids” were doing. His love for his family was strong and never-ending. He laughed with, taught, and loved each grandchild—and their significant others—as if they were his own children. He helped shape the character of all nine grandchildren: Nathan (Samantha), Kodi, Sloan (Jess), Mitchell (Tyome), William (Akilah), Nicholas, Alexis, Erica (Jack), and Sarah Grace. He also adored his great-granddaughter, Zoey, with whom he often began his mornings by sharing a virtual cup of coffee. Grandpa was known to stop by with donuts and never met an ice cream parlor he didn’t want to enjoy with his family. He attended so many events, games, and matches that he was often referred to as everyone’s grandpa.

He will be dearly missed, but his love, character, and devotion to family, friends, and others will be felt for generations to come.
