Richard Terrance Lindsey

September 23, 1947 — May 24, 2026

Douglasville, GA

Richard T. Lindsey was born in Niles, Michigan, on September 23, 1947. He passed away at 78, on May 24, 2026. He was a strong Christian and had been surrounded by God, friends, and family. Visitation will be at 4 pm on May 28th, and Services will be at 5 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home. Rick was a Navy veteran and will be buried at Georgia National Cemetery on June 4th at 2 pm.

Rick served in the Navy as an Electrician Mate on both nuclear and boomer submarines and later worked as a high-potential electrician at the Bremerton shipyard. While stationed in San Diego, he enjoyed relaxing at the zoo, where he became friends with a wart hog that looked for him and would run to him to get neck scratches. After leaving the Navy, he took up sailing, buying himself a 32’ yellow sailboat with a tall black mast. That boat could often be seen sailing around the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound. Along with sailing, he skied in the Cascades, Vail, and Jackson Hole. Occasionally, commenting about a Jackson Hole knee that reminded him of a meeting with a tree on the slope. He enjoyed spending time riding his motorcycle so much that he took Brenda on a get-to-know-each other trip, before they got married, on a month-long motorcycle tour around the United States

When he moved to the East Coast, he explored flying helicopters and scuba diving. Of the two, he enjoyed scuba diving so much that he dove in Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico, and any quarry deep enough. When he wasn’t diving, he would go shooting, where he would put “holes in paper” targets. He surprised Brenda with a trip to Italy, where they could take cooking lessons.

Family was important to him. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed mentoring others in his church community. He had the natural ability to see potential in people he met. Rick cared about people and was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need without ever wanting anything in return. His kindness and servitude were strong within his church. During his last days, many of the people he loved and cared for were there to comfort and show him the same love that he showed them. Rick will be greatly missed. The Lord is by his side, guiding him on his next journey.

His passing was preceded by that of his father, Richard L. Lindsey; his mother, Doliska Lindsey; and his daughter, Tonya Catherwood. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Brenda Lindsey, his sister Rebecca Atkins (Samuel Atkins), his nephew Mike DuVall (Randi DuVall), his nieces Cassandra Low (Stephen Low), Tara Atkins, his granddaughter Rachel Humphries (Dalton Humphries), his great-grandchildren Ava Humphreis, Olivia Humphries, and Wells Humphries, and his grandson Alex Chavez.
