Richard George Brown

August 19, 1949 — February 4, 2026

Richard George Brown, age 76, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and close friends. Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 28, 2026 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, Georgia.

Richard was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 19, 1949, to Beryl Gouner Brown and William Alton Brown, Sr. As the youngest of three, he grew up alongside his siblings, William Alton Brown Jr. and Bonnie Brown Oglesby.

He attended St. Anthony Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade, where he faithfully served as an altar boy. During his grade school years, his mother was also one of his teachers, a fact he did not always think was especially “cool” at the time, though it later became a fond memory. One of his early passions was football. In 1962, he was a standout quarterback for the Red Raiders in Gretna Recreation’s Bantam League, throwing 5 touchdown passes in a game and leading his team to a victory over the Tigers. They went on to become Grid City Champions that year, and again in 1963 when he played for the Vikings.

Summers were spent at Holy Cross Boys Camp in Waveland, MS, where Richard thrived. There, he sharpened his skills in swimming, rifle instruction, and water skiing and was honored as Best Camper, reflecting his enthusiasm, leadership, and love of the outdoors.

He attended Holy Cross Boys School for high school and graduated in 1967 continued his education at Auburn University. In 1972, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, launching a lifelong journey of learning and exploration. In the years that followed, he traveled to Yellowstone, Mexico, Cinnamon Bay in St. Thomas, Sequoia National Park, Belize, and many other remarkable destinations, always seeking adventure and new experiences.

Richard’s professional path reflected dedication and perseverance. He was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology and became a Medical Technologist in 1997. He devoted many years of service to Wellstar and Cartersville Medical Center, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. His work in the medical field was marked by integrity, diligence, and quiet commitment to those he served.

In his younger years, Richard embraced camping, traveling, photography, and scuba diving. He had a deep appreciation for the natural world and a gift for capturing meaningful moments through his camera lens. Though generally a quiet man, he deeply appreciated a good sense of humor and found joy in lighthearted moments shared with those closest to him.

Later in life, Richard moved to Rome, Georgia, where he built a beautiful life with his wife, Mary. One of his greatest joys was adopting Savannah, Madison, and Jackson and raising them with love and devotion. Together, they treasured family time, whether through simple evenings at home, adventurous cruises, or the celebration of life’s milestones. His pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was constant and evident.

After retiring, Richard and Mary’s next adventure involved their shared passion for antiques. Their business, The Roman Rose, reflected Richard’s appreciation for history, craftsmanship, and the stories behind cherished objects.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Mary Campbell Brown; his children, Marianna, David, Savannah, Madison, and Jackson; his cherished grandchildren, Shannon, Mellie, Madeline, Bodhi, River and Grayson; his treasured great-grandchildren, Bruce, Jude, Colbie, and Ashton; his sister, Bonnie Brown Oglesby and many extended family members and dear friends who will continue to carry his memory forward.

Above all, Richard will be remembered for his extreme loyalty and generosity. He was a steady, dependable presence, someone who showed up, stood firm, and gave freely of himself. His kindness was quiet but profound, and his love for his family ran deep.

A life so richly lived leaves a lasting legacy. Though he is no longer with us in body, Richard’s love and strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
