Rebecca Bettis Beasley

November 28, 1933 — May 12, 2025

Smyrna, GA

Rebecca Bettis Beasley, aged 91, of Smyrna, GA, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family members, following a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. Rebecca was a member of Eastland Heights Baptist Church in Marietta.

Rebecca was born on November 28, 1933 in Centre, Alabama to Sarah Lois and Horace Lee Bettis and spent the majority of her childhood years growing up in the Elizabeth town section of Marietta near Roselane Street and Cogburn Ave areas. Rebecca was a proud member of the class of 1951 at Acworth High School graduating as Valedictorian of her class. During high school she started working at various business locations on the Marietta Square that included Williams Drug Company, the Cobb County Times, and Marietta Daily Journal. While at the Marietta Daily Journal she met the love of her life Thomas Durham Beasley. They married in August 1952 and eventually settled in the Smyrna area in 1955.

With unwavering commitment and devotion Rebecca and Thomas started raising their family while living on Spring Street in Smyrna. Once settled in Smyrna she dedicated her life to being a Homemaker ensuring that all her children were loved and prepared for life journeys and experiences. She would later go back to work from 1969 to 1974 as a Swimming Pool Administrator at the City of Smyrna Jonquil Swimming Pool, where she would demonstrate and share her natural motherly instincts for other Smyrna area neighborhood kids and teenagers. Later she started a special secondary motherly role to all her grandchildren who proudly called her their “Nana”.

Rebecca was known for being sociable, approachable to everyone she met and was not a stranger to anyone. Her legacy of love, strength, being a great listener, and unquestionable kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her many stories, wise thoughts, and steady spirit will deeply be missed and never be forgotten.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years Thomas Durham Beasley (2008), their son Craig Beasley, and her siblings Elizabeth Buckner, Barabara Miller, and Harold Bettis.

Rebecca is survived by three sons, Larry Beasley (Diane), Marietta; Michael Beasley (Susie), Canton; Todd Beasley (Gwendolyn Arp), Marietta, and her daughter Kym Campbell (Shawn); six grandchildren, Ariane McClure, Breck Bauer, Hannah Hollis, Andrew Beasley, Matthew Hollis, Heather Price; sister Joyce Roberts and her husband Hugh, and nephews and nieces.
