Ralph Harlin Grizzle Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as Harlin or Harley, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 64.

Born on June 8, 1962, in Gainesville, Georgia, Harlin later made his home in Kennesaw, Georgia, where he built a life centered on faith, family, service, and hard work.

Harlin proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Though he was medically and honorably discharged, he remained deeply proud of his military service throughout his life. His dedication to serving others continued in his civilian career as a skilled auto mechanic and later as an Auto Technology teacher at Harrison High School, where he shared his knowledge and passion with countless students before returning to the automotive industry.

To know Harlin was to know his unmistakable sense of humor, his kind heart, and his warm, unforgettable hugs. He had a natural ability to make people laugh and feel welcome. He was hardworking, charming, and genuinely cared for those around him.

Harlin had a lifelong love of automobiles and racing. Whether working under the hood, watching NASCAR, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, or taking a drive, he was happiest when cars were involved. His favorite saying, “Mash the gas and go fast,” perfectly captured his adventurous spirit and love for the open road.

Above all else, Harlin was a devoted Christian. His faith was the foundation of his life, providing strength through every season. Even during his battle with dementia, he never let go of the presence of the Lord. His unwavering trust in Christ remained evident to those who loved him, bringing comfort and hope to his family. One of his favorite hymns, I’ll Fly Away, beautifully reflects the peace and joy he now experiences in the presence of his Savior.

Harlin’s greatest pride and joy were his children and his service to his country. He is survived by his daughter, Mia Lawson and her husband, Caleb; his daughter, Rhyan Grizzle; his son, Henry Grizzle; his cherished granddaughters, Sutton Powell and Cassie Lawson; his brother, Robert Grizzle; and his sister, Diane Edge and her husband, Guy, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Georgia National Cemetery on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to wear one of Harlin’s favorite colors—Army green, red, or blue—as we celebrate a life well lived and honor a man who loved deeply, laughed often, served faithfully, and pointed others to Christ.

As we remember Harlin, we find comfort in the words of Psalm 23:1, 4:

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want… Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

Though our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in the promise that Harlin is now at peace in the presence of his Savior. His legacy of faith, love, service, and unwavering devotion to his family will continue to inspire all who knew him. Until we meet again, may we remember his smile, cherish his hugs, hear his laughter, and never forget to “mash the gas and go fast.”

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Boot Campaign, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life-changing support to veterans and military families. This tribute honors Harlin’s proud service to his country and his enduring love for his fellow veterans.
