Norma Faye Freeman

January 3, 1939 — August 14, 2025

Powder Springs

Norma Faye Freeman, age 86, passed away August 14, 2025 surrounded by her family, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Norma was an only child born to Joe and Ruby (Miller) Gordon on January 3, 1939 in Temple, Georgia. She grew up in Waco, Georgia, graduated from Bremen High School in 1957 and attended West Georgia College (University of West Georgia) until she met the love of her life, James Robert “Bob” Freeman. They were married for 60 years until his passing in 2018.

Norma fulfilled her calling in honor as a supportive wife, mother, homemaker, pastor’s wife, and even as PTA President in our elementary school years. In their retirement years after pastoring numerous churches, Norma and Bob continued to faithfully minister to shut-ins and mentor other pastors as active members of Floyd Road Baptist Church.

Norma is survived by her sons, Gregory (Julie) and Mark (Carol) Freeman, grandchildren Lucas (Kalie) Freeman, Jena (Stephen) Leone, Jordan (Maloree) Freeman, Averi (Adam) Waites, and great grandchildren Booker, Rosie, Micah, and Wyatt.

Norma was an unwaveringly gentle, kind, and soft-spoken person, and was intellectual, quiet, reserved, and very independent, but loved to laugh, had the warmest smile, and was very proud of her entire family.

We can honestly say we never heard her utter an unkind word about anyone, and she never complained about anything (except maybe the Atlanta Braves when they didn’t play so well). In Matthew 5:5, Jesus said “blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth”. She certainly emulated the Good Shepherd in that way.

Some of the fond memories of the grandchildren with Mawmaw include watching Little House on the Prairie with her, and shopping trips for much-desired toy surprises. We will cherish the memories of her sweet and loving demeanor, and admire her resilient spirit. For as long as we can remember, when telling her goodbye, she would always say she loved us and that she prayed for us every day…and she had a genuineness about her that let us know she really meant it.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 18, at 11:00 AM, at Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram, with grandson-in-law Pastor Stephen Leone officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a memorial donation to Floyd Road Baptist Church in Austell, GA.
