Michael Brown

June 4, 1956 — March 25, 2025

Michael Elkanah Brown, born on June 4, 1956, in the Bronx, New York City, grew up in Staten Island as the eighth of thirteen children of Harold and Mildred Brown. An exceptional student and athlete, Michael excelled in basketball, earning both academic and athletic scholarships to Fisk University, where he pursued a pre-med track.

Although he was accepted into several medical schools, Michael chose to graduate and embark on a career in biomedical technology. He began his journey at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia (formerly Crawford Long) as part of the open-heart team, where he met his beloved wife, Jemma. They married on November 3, 1990, beginning a partnership filled with love and unwavering support.

In addition to his work in biomedical technology, Michael ventured into real estate, becoming an agent, broker and an investor. During his prime, he owned over 20 rental properties in metro Atlanta, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and keen business acumen.

As the first in his family to establish roots in Atlanta, Michael was a devoted family man who sought to share his love for Georgia's beauty and opportunities. He purchased a home for his parents and welcomed them to Marietta, Georgia, where they could thrive together with other family members soon to follow.

Deeply committed to family, Michael cherished mentoring the young people in his family, encouraging them to walk a righteous path in Christ. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the spirit of generosity and kindness.

Michael had a passion for fishing, spending cherished moments on the water with his friends and brothers—Darryl, James, Richard, and Steven—as well as his sons, Michael and Josiah. He loved his boat and enjoyed fishing on lakes throughout the Southeast, traveling to Alaska for fly fishing, and embarking on deep-sea fishing adventures in Florida.

Michael was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was a dedicated prayer warrior who served in ministries such as the Sons of Thunder. Michael’s favorite scripture was Colossians 3:17 (KJV): “And whatsoever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father through him.”

Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Jemma; his children and grandchildren; four brothers; four sisters; and countless nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. His legacy of love, mentorship, dedication and faith will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
