Maynard John Roper, 83, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, in Marietta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. Burial will be held Monday, October 12, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
He leaves behind a lifetime of love, faith, friendship, hard work, and countless memories shared with the people who meant the most to him. Maynard was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a true friend to many. He was married to his beloved wife, Patricia Williams Roper, for 61 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, blessed with two children, Jeffrey Roper and Angie Roper; four grandchildren, Whitney Anne Rice, Tyler Roper, Matthew Roper, and Jack Roper; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Roper and Gracie Roper. Maynard was immensely proud of each one of them and never missed an opportunity to remind others just how special they were.
Maynard was a man who loved people. He genuinely cared about others and always wanted to hear their stories. His love of conversation began during his high school years when he started working at a gas station, where he developed both his lifelong love of cars and his appreciation for connecting with people.
His strong work ethic carried him throughout his career. In 1963, Maynard began working for General Motors, where he quickly established himself as a dependable and honorable employee. He later spent 25 years with Sears, retiring in January 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed seven years in automotive sales. To Maynard, it was never simply a job. He loved helping people, making them happy, and guiding them toward making the right choices.
Faith was at the heart of Maynard's life. He was a faithful member of Doss Memorial Baptist Church from 1978 to 1999, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Chairman of Deacons, and even as a choir member-a role he never boasted about. He especially enjoyed visiting those who were sick or struggling, offering them kindness, encouragement, and the love of Christ.
In 1999, Maynard joined Beulah Baptist Church, where he again served as Chairman of Deacons for several years. Following a serious fall on Christmas Day in 2000, he received an outpouring of love and support from his church family. He often said that God had given him twenty years and more of "bonus years," and he remained deeply mindful of making those years count. He wanted to be certain that he was fulfilling God's purpose for his life.
Maynard was, in every sense, everyone's biggest fan. He supported his family in everything they did, whether it was something big or something small. If someone he loved was involved, Maynard was there cheering them on. His encouragement, pride, and unwavering support were gifts his family will carry with them always.
He also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, meeting people along the way, and making friends wherever life took him. With Maynard, you didn't remain a stranger for long-you became a friend for life. Some of his favorite memories were made on hunting trips with his grandchildren, where he enjoyed spending time with them and helping them develop their skills. He worked hard throughout his life to stay connected with his friends and family, and those relationships meant the world to him.
Maynard will be remembered for his warm heart, his generous spirit, his strong faith, his love for his family, and his genuine interest in the lives of others. He had a way of making people feel valued, supported, and loved. His greatest legacy is not simply the work he did or the places he went, but the people he encouraged, the family he cherished, and the many lives he touched along the way.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
