Mary Kate Lipscomb, age 70, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on February 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 12:30pm until 2:00 pm at the West Cobb Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia. The funeral service will follow the visitation at the same location. The family will hold a private burial on March 12, 2026, at noon, at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.
Mary Kate was a native of Marietta, Georgia, where she had lived since her birth. A graduate of Osborne High School, Class of 1973, Mary Kate spent her entire working career dedicated to the customers and co-workers she loved at Bellsouth/AT&T, retiring in 2017 after 44 years of service.
Mary Kate took pride in her work, particularly in serving customers with difficult problems. Her compassion and character on full display, she was widely known for her ability to resolve even the most complex issues. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and pets. She was affectionately known for seldom being on time, to any occasion, but when she arrived, she was always the life of the party. Mary Kate’s love of life was infectious, rivalled only by her love for her extensive collection of shoes and handbags.
Mary Kate was a devoted member of Fair Oaks United Methodist Church, where she was a cherished member of the choir, including the women’s ensemble; where her voice spread the same joy with which she met every day of her life.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her adoring sister, Marsha Lipscomb Clay; her uncle, Charles (Bob) Lipscomb, her sister-in-law, Susan Hammond, and her nieces: Heather Lipscomb, Haley Lipscomb, and Amanda Clay. Preceding her in death were her parents, David and Nina Lipscomb, and her brothers, Mark and Eric Lipscomb.
We are forever grateful to Mary Kate’s family at Varenita West Cobb Memory Care for their love and devotion. Mary Kate’s legacy of kindness and her infectious smile will be remembered by all who knew her.
