Mary Joy Robertson Cail

Mary Joy Robertson Cail, age 89, passed peacefully at home in Marietta, Georgia, on October 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she cherished so deeply.

Mary Joy was born January 29, 1937, in Savannah, Georgia, the second of five daughters born to Medicus and Gertrude Robertson. Savannah was home for most of her life, and it was there that she built a lifetime of friendships, memories, faith, and family traditions. Later in life, she moved to Marietta, Georgia, to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and the growing family that brought her so much joy.

Mary Joy was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was an important part of who she was and how she lived. She loved serving others and especially enjoyed helping plan church activities and bringing people together.

Music also filled Mary Joy's early life. Along with her sisters and parents, she sang on the radio, accompanied by her mother on the piano. Mary Joy and her sisters became known as the Robertson Sisters and sang together for many occasions. Their beautiful harmonies became a treasured part of their family's history.

Throughout her working years, Mary Joy enjoyed a varied career. She worked at the local newspaper and as a property manager before spending many years as a real estate agent, a career she continued until her retirement.

Mary Joy also had a gift for writing and especially loved composing poetry. But perhaps her greatest passion was family. She loved her family fiercely and believed that family relationships were precious and worth protecting. She was adamant about keeping generations connected, and family reunions were especially important to her. She understood that as families grew and life carried people in different directions, making the effort to come together mattered.

Mary Joy was the loving mother of Reed (Livia) Crouch, Cary (Lilia) Crouch, Tracy (Harry) Penninger, and Sheila (John) Hopkins. Her family continued to grow through the generations, and she was abundantly blessed with a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

Those who knew Mary Joy will remember a woman deeply rooted in her faith, her family, and the relationships she treasured. Her life stretched across generations, and the love, traditions, music, faith, and memories she leaves behind will continue through all those whose lives she touched.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the family bonds Mary Joy worked so hard to nurture remain. Her family finds comfort in the faith she carried throughout her life and in knowing that love and family relationships extend beyond this mortal life.

Funeral Services

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home located at 2480 Macland Rd SW, Marietta GA 30064. The family will receive friends for a viewing from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery located at 330 Bonaventure Rd in Savannah, Georgia, where Mary Joy will be laid to rest in the family plot.

Mary Joy spent a lifetime bringing her family together. Perhaps the greatest way to honor her memory is simply to continue what mattered so much to her: love one another, stay connected, and never let too much time pass before bringing the family together again.
