Marvin S. Burns Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice Care at Kennesaw Mountain. Marvin was born on May 5, 1938, to the late Gaynelle (Styles) Burns and Marvin S. Burns Sr. He was the husband of the late Joaneva (Joannie) Coleman Burns of Albany, Georgia. They were married from 1986 until her death in 2017.
Marvin graduated from Rockmart High School and later attended Dekalb Community College. Working as an Industrial Mechanic would be his life's work. He was employed by Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA, Kraft Foods in Decatur, GA, and Better Brands/Miller Brewing in Albany, GA, where he retired in his seventies. Marvin was an avid sports fan, having coached each of his children at some point in their lives, and was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan. He also enjoyed fishing and boating with his children and grandchildren, riding motorcycles, and working on old trucks and cars. He loved country music and traveling the world, and especially visiting our national parks.
Mr. Burns is survived by daughters, Sherie Evans (Ricky), Terri Harris (Wesley), sons, Chris Burns (Sheryl), Darian Burns (Edith), and Stepdaughter, Marleen Cortez (Jesse.) He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Rachel Evans, Levi Evans, Heidi Hicks, Travis Harris, Tim Harris, Abby Harrison, Mindy Burns, Tandy Knight, Jonathan Burns, Matthew Burns, and Micah Burns; and twenty great-grandchildren. Marvin leaves behind his three sisters, Shirley Boyd, Jo Kelley, Hilda Clark, and his brother, Roger Burns (Ann) along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Marvin's life will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home with son-in-law, Dr. Wesley Harris officiating. The graveside service for Mr. Burns will be at 3:00 p.m. at Floral Memory Gardens in Albany, GA.
Pallbearers will include Chris Burns, Darian Burns, Jonathan Burns, Wesley Harris, Ricky Evans, Jesse Cortez, and Honorary Pallbearer, Roger Burns.
