Judy Carol Payne Schlangen

Judy Carol Payne Schlangen, age 76, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 29, 2023 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta.

Mrs. Schlangen was born in Marietta on June 26, 1947 to Lewis Cecil Payne and Nellie Ruth Owenby Payne. She graduated from North Cobb High School in 1965. She worked most of her adult life as a Legal Secretary for several law firms, including Hansell & Post Law Firm in Atlanta, Barnes & Browning Law Firm in Marietta, GA, and retired from Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele Law Firm in Marietta, GA in 2009.

Her passion was for serving as a church pianist and organist, including from 1972 - 1988 at Milford Baptist Church in Marietta, from 1988 - 1993 at First Baptist Church, Austell, GA, from 1993 - 1998 at Ewing Road Baptist Church in Austell, GA, and from 1999 - 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church in Austell, GA. During her retirement years she enjoyed teaching her Sunday School Senior Ladies Joy Class. She also loved sewing, working crossword puzzles, reading books, gardening, traveling, and taking care of her beloved cat, Bonnie.

Survivors include: Husband, Charles Clemens Schlangen; Brother, John Phillip Payne, Marietta, GA; Many Cousins

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy Schlangen's memory to the C-3 Ministry at Milford Baptist Church.
