Joshua Scott Godfrey, affectionately known as Josh, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2026, at the age of 30. He was born on April 23, 1996, to Orren Lee Godfrey, Jr. and Angelia D. (Casey) Turner.
To so many people, Josh was a son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend. But to Jessica, he was her husband, her best friend, her person, and the man she had planned to spend the rest of her life beside. And to Alexandria, he was simply—and most importantly—Daddy.
Joshua was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Orren Lee Godfrey Sr. and Katherine Godfrey of West Point, Ga; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Freida Casey of Marietta, Georgia; his nephew, Phillip Cochran of Cumming, Ga; and his sister-in-law, Crystal Sawyer of Dawsonville, Ga.
He is survived by his wife Jessica Godfrey and daughter Alexandria of Adairsville, GA; his mother, Angelia, and Christopher Turner of Acworth, Ga; his father, Orren Lee, and Ceiria Godfrey of Marietta, Ga; his siblings, Hunter Godfrey of Rockmart, Ga; Cody and Hailey Godfrey of Dallas, Ga; Brittani and Jeff Crocker of Dallas, Ga; Casey Prater of Luthersville, Ga; Brandon Godfrey of Valley, Al; Shandi and Craig Blackston of Valley, Al; Tammy and Rodney Davis of Opelika, Al; Mason and Carlena Johnson of Peachtree City, Ga; and Kailyn Johnson of Peachtree City, Ga; as well as his wife’s parents, Ricky and Trina Cochran of Covington, Ga. He be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Josh and Jessica spent nearly nine years married, building a life that belonged to them. Nine years of love, laughter, arguments, making up, growing together, figuring life out, and creating memories that Jessica will carry with her for the rest of her life. They shared the kind of relationship that wasn’t perfect because life isn’t perfect, but it was real. They knew each other in ways that only two people who have shared years together can.
Jessica wasn’t just Josh’s wife. She was the woman he came home to, the person who knew his moods, his habits, his jokes, his stubbornness, his heart, and all the little things that made him who he was. She was the person he chose to build a family with. And together, they had their greatest blessing—their daughter, Alexandria. There is something irreplaceable about a little girl’s daddy, and Alexandria was Josh’s little girl. Alexandria and her daddy had their own routines of dancing to music in the garage and driving the truck through the neighborhood.
Josh loved motorcycles and the freedom that came with riding. He had his own personality, his own sense of humor, and his own way of doing things. Anyone who knew Josh knows that he wasn’t someone who could simply blend into the background. He was Josh—and he was unforgettable. Josh’s life cannot be measured only by how it ended. It must also be measured by how deeply he was loved. There are no words big enough for the hole Josh leaves behind.
There will be days when remembering him hurts, and there will also be days when remembering him brings a smile. Maybe that is part of what it means to love someone who is gone: learning to carry the heartbreak and the beautiful memories at the same time. He leaves behind people who loved him. People who will miss hearing his voice. People who will laugh at memories of things he did. People who will tell stories about him for years to come. People who will wish they could have one more conversation, one more laugh, one more ride, one more ordinary day.
Rest peacefully, Josh. You were loved more than you ever could have known, and you will be missed for the rest of our lives.
