Joseph “Big Joey” Ramsey Whitfield passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025. He was born on September 11th, 1971, in Austell, GA. He graduated from McEachern High School in 1989, and joined the United States Army soon after in 1990. Joey served active duty in the Army from 1990-1993, serving as a multichannel communications system operator. He was honorably discharged from reserve duty in 1998 with a National Defense Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, a Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a Sharpshooter Badge, and a Kuwait Liberation Medal for his service in Operation Desert Storm. During his service, on March 17th, 1992 in Aiken, SC, he married Susan B Whitfield, who preceded him in death in February of this year. Post-military he had a career in telecommunications that spanned 25 years. Away from work, he enjoyed hunting and watching football and baseball with his family. His favorite sports teams included the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and Atlanta Braves. He was also an avid watcher of movies, having an especial love for The Godfather movies, the Back to the Future Trilogy, and the Star Wars series. Joey is survived by his parents, Debbie and Ronnie Whitfield; his brother, Jamie Whitfield; his three children, Morgan Davenport (Lee), Joey Whitfield (Haley), and Olivia Whitfield; and his four grandchildren, Hunter and Daniel Davenport and Lainey and Jace Whitfield.
