Joan Sexton

March 3, 1940 — February 11, 2025

Joan Sexton, 84, of Austell, Georgia was received into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 after a lengthy journey with Alzheimer's Disease.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Noah C. and Lauretta Johns Swafford; a brother, Dr. W. Roger Swafford; her husband, H. Neal Sexton; and a step-daughter, Geneva R. Bailey.

Ms. Sexton leaves behind a son, J. Charles (Linda) Sexton, and a beloved 'chosen' daughter, Mindy Haddock (Todd) Lindsey. Although Joan had no biological grandchildren, she deeply loved her four step-grandchildren and their respective families - as well as the four sons of Mrs. Lindsey. Several cousins and other extended family members also survive.

After graduating from South Cobb High School, Joan was employed as an Executive Secretary for Standard Oil Company, but later pursued a career as a Beautician. In time, however, she realized that her greatest joy would be found by being a stay-at-home Mom. She would also become the caretaker of countless youngsters who passed through the doors of the Sexton home, while their parents worked.

Joan was a Charter Member of New Fellowship Baptist Church in Lithia Springs, GA, but in recent years faithfully attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Hiram, GA. She was an avid Gospel Music fan; a collector of Thomas Kinkade lighthouses; and was an extremely talented painter. Many of her beloved friends and family members are recipients of her artwork.

The staff of West Cobb Funeral Home of Marietta, Georgia has been entrusted to serve The Sexton Family. Visitation will be Monday, February 17th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with the Home Going Celebration to be held on Tuesday, February 18th at 11:00 AM.

Pall Bearers include Todd Lindsey, Brian Michael Copeland, Avery Copeland, Austin Lindsey, Phillip Gentry, Josh Passmore and Honorary Pall Bearer, Chase Lindsey. Music will be provided by Jacky Fortner, and Charlie Sexton & Homecoming. Dr. John Turner will officiate, with a eulogy by Rev. Terry Marbut. Following the service, Rev. Billy Lord will conduct the graveside ceremony at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton, Georgia.
