Joan D. Chambers

January 13, 1939 — February 7, 2024

Hiram, Georgia

On January 13, 1939 a baby girl was born in Elizabeth N.J. and was named Joan Williams.  Joan shared her love, life, and intellect for 85 years until God called her home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Joan was the second of thirteen children and as a teenager she graduated from Southside High School in Newark, N.J., now known as Malcolm X Shabazz.  Joan started a family, married Marvin T. Chambers Sr., and moved to Lakewood N.J.  She worked a number of years for Abby Records and completed a successful career as an Assembly Line Operator for General Motors. She began her career with GM in 1991 and after 15 years of dedicated service, she retired. Joan eventually settled in Georgia where she fulfilled her last days.

Joan will be most remembered by her generosity and the quality time spent with her greatest joy, her family.  She played a significant role in the caring and nurturing of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was evident that she unselfishly gave of herself, which will be stored for a lifetime in the hearts of many. Joan also developed a love for and had become an avid shopper of both QVC and HSN.

Joan is survived by and had been truly blessed by her two sons Roosevelt R. Williams (Janice) and Marvin T. Chambers Jr. (Sandra); ten  grandchildren Lenora Bissoondial, April Brown (Terence), Alyse Williams-Kilford (Tim), Anais Watson, Qianna Chambers, Marvin Watson, Winston T. Jackson II (Alexis), Travis L. Jackson Sr., Dave’yonne Daniels, and Kiresten Chambers;  sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; seven siblings Isabell Washington, Joyce Johnson, Janet Williams, Darnice Williams, Angela Nash, Harriette Williams, and Andre Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin T. Chambers Sr.; parents Harry & Daisy Williams; five siblings Harry Williams Jr., Eugene Williams, Richard Williams, Eleanor Williams and Tanya Williams. She had also been blessed by and preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie C. Chambers.
