Jerry Lamar Millwood

Jerry Lamar Millwood, age 84, of Blue Ridge, GA, went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 4, 2026. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 13, at West Cobb Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta.

Born in Marietta, GA, on the icy day of March 13, 1942, to Benjamin Jewell Millwood and Maude Lou Kent Millwood in their home, Jerry made his debut just across the street from the church he would attend as a youth, Austin Avenue Baptist Church. He lived a life of faith, hard work, honor, duty, wit and sacrificial love. Jerry grew up in Marietta, working as a boy on his family’s farms, growing crops, caretaking animals and enjoying life in the country. He often mentioned good times and antics with his best friend and cousin Larry Barmore, and sister Cathy. Jerry had fond memories of traveling to Atlanta to sell watermelons with his beloved ‘Pa’, grandfather Henry Jewell Millwood. He attended Park Street Elementary and enjoyed life-long friendships as a member of Marietta High School’s Class of 1960, later studying at Atlanta Vo-Tech. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, was awarded the M-14 Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.

In 1965, Jerry met the love of his life, Edith ‘Edie’ McCutchen from Hattiesburg, MS. Three months later they were married and lived out their faith and love for 61 years, imparting immense blessings to their children and grandchildren. Jerry worked as a patrolman with the Marietta Police Department where he acquired the nickname ‘Crazy Cat’, due in part to his driving maneuvers and courage under pressure. He went on to manage the security department of a local department store, and held various positions from 1987 to 2003 with the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as an Investigator. Mr. Millwood managed real estate for many decades, held a broker’s license, and owned Westside Realty. Over the years, he tirelessly worked numerous part-time jobs, including skilled carpentry. These were in addition to his full-time job, in service to his grateful and loving family.

Jerry fostered a lasting appreciation of nature in his children through his love of the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and Enduro motorcycling, as well as maintaining his home and acreage, including gardening and cutting firewood. The times he treasured most were with his family and grandchildren, many of which were centered on his scenic front porch where he longed to be, and was able to enjoy, in his last days.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Jewell Millwood and Maude Lou Kent Millwood, uncle Clayton Lamar Millwood, brother-in-law William Greene Justus, and nephew Stephen Christopher Justus. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart Edith 'Edie' McCutchen Millwood, daughter Traci Millwood Esslinger, son Henry Millwood, cherished grandchildren Charlize ‘Charli’ Millwood, Leah Millwood, Chloe Esslinger, Henry ‘Hank’ Millwood II, and Andrew Millwood, sister Cathy Millwood Justus, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews he loved.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 13, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
