Jerry Wayne Cofield, 91, of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away on December 11, 2025 at Arbor Terrace in Acworth. He rallied with family the evening before his passing. He was the doting husband for 58 beautiful years to the late Paula Cofield.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 24, 1934, Jerry went on to graduate from O'Keefe High School where he entered the 52nd draft serving the U.S. Marine Corps Air Wing from 1952 to 1960 as a mechanic working on F-4, U-4, and FGS Model Planes. Deployments included Korea and Japan as a Buck Sergeant.
After his honorable discharge, Jerry worked for Western Electric, Bellsouth, and AT&T as a lineman. He raised his family in Smyrna, Georgia before moving to Kennesaw. Jerry served as an usher every Sunday at Mount Paran Church of God. He has consistently felt the love and support from his church family.
He was a Guest of Honor in 1972 at Walt Disney World, listened to the Atlanta Braves on the radio religiously, and loved to hear his favorite title, "Papa," where he would always put two thumbs up. He prided himself on praising his three great sons, his three wonderful daughters-in-law, and six "top-drawer" grandchildren. He made sure people knew, "There wasn't a dud in the bunch."
He is preceded in death by Paula Cofield (Wife), Selina Cofield (Mother), David Cofield (Father), and Gary Cofield (Brother).
He is survived by his three sons, Gregg Cofield (Shannon) of Cartersville; Gary Cofield (Lynn) of Acworth; and Jimmy Cofield (Andrea) of Marietta. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kaylie, Tori Lynne, Sawyer (Carter), David, Greer, and Paul.
The visitation will be held on December 17, 2025 from 1 P.M.-3 P.M. at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory (2480 Macland Road Marietta, GA 30064). The graveside service will be held on January 5, 2026 at 3 P.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery (1080 Scott Hudgens Drive Canton, GA 30114).
Our Papa will be greatly missed.
