Jenifer Leigh Scoggins Miller

Mableton, GA

Thursday, February 20, 1986 to Wednesday, September 9, 2026

Jenifer Leigh Scoggins Miller, servant of Jesus Christ, beloved wife, mother, sister, granddaughter, and friend, passed away in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 40 years old.

Jenifer was born on Thursday, February 20, 1986, in Fayetteville, Georgia.

Jenifer was beautiful, generous, fiercely loyal, deeply discerning, and extraordinarily strong. She had a remarkable ability to see past appearances, status, mistakes, addiction, and difficult chapters in a person's life. She looked for what was real and true. When she found something genuine and good in someone, she encouraged it, defended it, nurtured it, and helped it grow.

The greatest love of Jenifer's life was her son, Anthony Isaiah Miller. Motherhood was the role she seemed born to fill. She poured herself into Isaiah with joy, tenderness, protectiveness, and tremendous attention. She loved their mornings together, their library trips and story times, cooking for him, playing with him, and simply being near him. She treasured the small details of his childhood and wanted to preserve its sweetness for as long as she could.

Jenifer shared a deeply devoted marriage with her husband, Anthony Miller. The love they shared seemed unlike anything either had experienced or witnessed before. It was a love of extraordinary loyalty, trust, generosity, and devotion. Jenifer had spent much of her life believing she needed to look out for herself. In Anthony, she found someone she trusted to look out for her even more fiercely than she looked out for herself. Inscribed on his wedding ring are the words she gave him, "With you, I'm home."

Jenifer gave freely and naturally. If someone needed food, she fed them. If someone needed help and she could provide it, she did. She opened her home, cooked for groups, packed food and gift bags for people in need, and gave generously of her time, energy, and possessions. Bringing people together around food and fellowship was one of the ways she expressed love.

She spent much of her working life in restaurants and hospitality as a server and bartender. Through restaurants, festivals, coworkers, customers, and friends, Jenifer built an enormous community around her. She could be shy, or at least she thought she could be shy, but no one ever missed that Jenifer was in the room. Her humor, intelligence, warmth, energy, and kindness made her unforgettable.

Jenifer was fiercely competitive and determined. Once she set her mind toward something, setbacks did not change the destination. Her own life showed that strength. She faced addiction and its consequences, did the difficult work required to rebuild her life, and fought her way toward the future she wanted. She knew from experience that a painful chapter did not have to define an entire life.

Her strength never erased her tenderness. Jenifer was remarkably sweet but remarkably strong, especially when protecting someone she loved. There was a lioness in her.

Jenifer was adopted and raised by Marie and Joel Scoggins, who preceded her in death and who first introduced her to Jesus. As an adult, Jenifer renewed that relationship with Jesus in a deep and intentional way. Two years ago, she joyfully chose to be baptized in water as an outward sign of her renewed and strengthened faith in Him. Prayer, Scripture, gratitude, and trusting God became very important parts of her life.

Her brother Brent Scoggins was her hero and role model. Brent had overcome, persevered, and achieved in ways Jenifer deeply admired. He represented strength and stability to her. Brent and close family friend John Flatt stood beside Jenifer through some of the most difficult and chaotic periods of her life. They wanted the best for her, worked to help her reach it, and remained stabilizing forces. Their love for Jenifer was enduring, practical, and deeply important to her. Jenifer loved her brother Mark Brandon Scoggins deeply as well and continued to want the best for him throughout her life. Her brother Joel Bradley Scoggins preceded her in death.

Later in life, Jenifer became connected with members of her birth family. Her birth mother, Jill Gardner, became a cherished part of her life before preceding her in death. Jenifer shared an especially close relationship with her grandmother, Donna Gardner Carothers, who survives her, along with Donna's husband, John Carothers, Donna's sister, Sherri Sauls, and Jill's sister, Ginny Nunnally.

Jenifer maintained loving relationships with family from her first marriage to Richard Crowder, who preceded her in death. She remained close to his mother, Sheila McBride, and her husband, Jeffrey McBride. She also remained close to Richard's sister, Elizabeth Farr, and her husband, Chris Farr, and their children, Malcolm Crowder and Madison Farr. Madison was particularly special to Jenifer, and the two shared an especially close bond.

Jenifer is survived by her beloved son, Anthony Isaiah Miller, her husband, Anthony Miller, her brothers Brent Scoggins and Mark Brandon Scoggins, Donna and John Carothers, Sherri Sauls, Ginny Nunnally, close family friend John Flatt, the McBride and Farr families, and a wide circle of friends, coworkers, extended family, and others whose lives she touched.

Jenifer's life was marked by faith, generosity, loyalty, perseverance, and an uncommon capacity to love people deeply.
