James Richard Skinner, age 71, of Fairmount, Georgia passed away August 25, 2024. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 20, 2024, at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia with Rev. Mike Cronin officiating. There will be a short reception immediately following the service.
Jimmy spent most of his life serving in various capacities, having worked at the Atlantic Steel Company and dedicating 18 years to the Cobb County School Board Maintenance Department. Known for his exceptional diligence, he was often described as someone who “worked his fingers to the bone,” a testament to his commitment to both his profession and his family. As a simple man at heart, Jimmy cherished his family above all. His love was boundless; he never told his children or grandchildren no, always fostering an environment of support and affection. His personality shined through in his interactions, making him a beloved figure among those fortunate enough to be in his presence. He was an avid fan of UGA Football and had a deep appreciation for the great outdoors, which led him to enjoy activities such as hunting and to trout fishing in the North GA streams specifically Hiawassee, GA. He also had a fondness for Nascar, whiskey, and Redman Chew, hobbies that brought him joy and were a part of his everyday life. In the final years of his life, Jimmy was blessed with his "dream home" in the mountains in Fairmount, Georgia.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Gus Jo Skinner and Billie Jean Skinner, as well as his sisters, Debra Skinner and Mary Motter.
Survivors include: his daughters, Crissy (Matt) Huff of Dallas, GA, and Kacey (Marty) Patton of Marietta, GA; his son, James Skinner of Fairmount, GA; his sister, Sandra Jo Skinner McKenzie “Sandy”; his cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Brayden, Emma, and Charlotte; great granddaughter McKinley and several nieces and nephews
