James Walter Bennett, Sr. of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on January 5, 1933, in Jasper, Georgia, James lived a life filled with love, hard work, and unwavering faith.
James dedicated his professional life to being a salesman for Fair Oaks Paint and Hardware, where he was known not only for his work ethic but also for his integrity and commitment to service. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with honor and pride, a reflection of his deep sense of responsibility.
Above all, James was a loving father who instilled in his sons, James Walter Bennett, Jr. and Joseph Carl Bennett, one of life's most important lessons: how to treat a mother and wife with respect, kindness, and love. He led by example, demonstrating with his actions the importance of hard work, the value of family, and doing what is right even when faced with challenges. James loved God deeply, and his faith was evident in every aspect of his life, guiding him with humility and grace.
James leaves behind his devoted wife, Barbara Elrod Bennett, and a cherished family that includes his sons, James Walter Bennett, Jr. (Kim) and Joseph Carl Bennett (Mary); his sister, Jean Roach; his sister, Sheryl Evans; and his beloved grandchildren, Evan (Gwen), Emily, Kaitlin, and Joey Bennett. He is preceded in death by his father, James Bennett, and his mother, Cathie Bennett; and his siblings Allie, Odell, Willard, Ellen, Adez and Ovalene.
A visitation will be held on March 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at West Cobb Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064. The following day, another visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, preceding the funeral service, which will commence at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
James Walter Bennett, Sr. will be remembered for the legacy of love and respect he leaves behind, in the hearts of his family and friends. His life was a testament to the values he held dear, and he will be deeply missed.
