Mrs. Hazel E. 'Skeets' Smith Langston of Hiram, GA passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024. Hazel was born in Milan, GA on February 10, 1936, to John Newton Smith and Mrytle Mae Williams. She married John Emory Langston, of Unadilla, GA on May 28, 1955. She is survived by two sons, John Emory Langston, Jr. of Marietta, and Glenn David Langston (Patti) of Hiram, along with a loving sister, Robbie Clara Bernier of Phoenix, AZ, and 3 grandsons Scott Langston, Justin and Cody Shipp. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years John E. Langston, Sr., parents John Smith (Edna), Myrtle O'Keefe (Charles), and sisters Martha Loretta Little of Hawkinsville, Myrtle Nutrell Fredrick of Warner Robbins and grandson Joey Shipp. Hazel graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus, GA and later received her Bachelor's degree in business from Stephens College. Hazel was a den mother with the Cub Scouts and supported the Boy Scouts for many years. She worked at Lockheed Martin for over 40 years. She was a proud member of the IAM Local Lodge 709 for over 50 years and in 2012 received the Jeweled Veterans Badge for her honored service. While active in the union she served in many roles, including Shop Steward and Union Recording Secretary. She served as the Regent of the local DAR, was active in the Red Hat society, IAM Retirees, Lockheed Lapidary Club, several genealogy chapters and many other groups. She was a member of New Testament Baptist Church and later Hiram First United Methodist Church. She kept the nursery, taught Sunday school, and was active in other Church activities. A Memorial Service for Hazel will be held July 13th, 2024, at Hiram First UMC at 1:00pm. The family will receive visitors at 12:00pm.
