Mr. Harry L. Langston, age 95, of Smyrna, GA passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025. Paw Paw, as he was called by his grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of the most loving, kind, and brave men that you would ever meet. He was married for 71 years to his bride, Bobbie, who passed away in April 2024. It was only a matter of time when this inseparable couple would be joined again with this time being at the feet of Jesus. Jesus, however, was always at the center of their marriage and the loving family that they created.
Harry, who had 2 brothers and 1 sister, was born on August 20, 1929, to Bonnie M. Langston and Iva Headrick Langston in Dalton, Georgia. Harry graduated high school and joined the Army in 1950. He fought on the front lines in the 24th infantry combat division during the Korean War in 1951-1952. On July 12, 1951, he was injured during battle when he was hit with shrapnel from a hand grenade that was thrown near him. As a result of his brave service to his country, he received a purple heart, a meritorious unit commendation, the Korean service medal with bronze star, and the United Nations service medal.
Following his honorable discharge and return to Georgia, he married Bobbie Jo Barnes on November 2, 1952, and they had a daughter, Vickie, on July 2, 1954. Harry worked as a store manager with the City of Atlanta, where he retired from in 1989.
In addition to being a loving husband and devoted father, he was an adored grandfather and great grandfather and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He served as a deacon at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Smyrna, Georgia, Hurt Road Baptist Church in Smyrna, Georgia, and Calvary Baptist Church in Austell, Georgia. Harry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going camping, swimming, riding his bike, and going to church. He was proud of and doted on his grandchildren and great grandchildren, spent time with them, traveled with them, and attended their school, sports, and musical activities. Later in years, he and Bobbie moved to Delmar Gardens in Smyrna, Georgia, where they developed many cherished friendships.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Iva Langston, his wife, Bobbie, his son-in-law, Dennis Cosby, his 3 siblings, Lamar Langston, Jerry Langston, and Carol Lynn Langston, and his sister-in-law, Tilda Langston.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Vickie Cosby of Smyrna, GA; granddaughter, Kacie Cosby Phipps and her husband, Wayne Phipps, of Mableton, GA; granddaughter, Kim Cosby Keene, and her husband, Jacob Keene, of Berkley Lake, GA; great-grandsons, Harrison Phipps, Hollis Phipps, and Langston Keene; great-granddaughter, Quinn Keene; niece, Charlene Langston Anderson, and her husband, Ron Anderson; niece, Susan Langston Allen, and her husband, Don; and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Phipps officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home preceding the service from 9:30-11:00 AM. Burial at Georgia National Cemetery will occur at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Unity Baptist Church Building Fund or King Spring Baptist Church.
