Georgia Eloise Helton

August 31, 1929 — May 4, 2024

Georgia Eloise Chandler Smallwood Helton, age 94, long-time resident of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away May 4, 2024. She is preceded in death by her adoring husband Hollis “Bud” Smallwood, parents Ewin and Ella (Lane) Chandler, brothers Edward, A.B., and Glen Chandler, sister Helen Brady, and by her children Charlotte and William “Bill” Smallwood. She is survived by her sister Wilma Hales, children Michael Smallwood of Smyrna, Sandra (Joe Erni) of Douglasville and Karen (Jon Cunningham) of Canton, GA.

Eloise was born in Newnan, GA, and is a graduate of Fitzhugh Lee High School. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she spent her life as a devoted homemaker. Eloise shared her talent as an accomplished seamstress by sewing beautiful clothing, school uniforms, and home decorations. Later in life, she enjoyed thrifting, finding not only beautiful ensembles for herself, earning her the moniker “Nana Barbie,” but also bestowing her found treasures on her grandchildren, Hope, Mike, Kelly, Alex, Bridget and Trinity, whom she referred to as her “darling angels.” Great grandchildren Charlotte, Madeline, Emmylou, Ellis, Mark, Luke, and namesake Eloise will carry on her legacy of love.

Eloise was known for her incredible smile and sense of humor. She will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have had her in their lives. A Celebration of Life will be planned by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please help us commemorate our cherished mother’s life by sharing your kind thoughts, memories, and stories, and by holding Eloise’s memory in your hearts.
