 A long time ago,

a little girl came to earth.

 July 8th, 1933

was her official date of birth.

 Her life was hard

 and sometimes sad.

 She wasn't even 3 when

 she lost her dad.

 With love and hard work

she was raised by her mother.

Not only her but 4 other brothers too.

You take your place in life,

 what else can you do?

 She was a good daughter

and helped all that she could,

 from cleaning and dishes

 and carrying in wood.

 Her first little job was

 sweeping the yard,

 the Georgia red clay

 packed smooth and so hard.

 She told us stories

of her life picking beans in the field,

 scrubbing clothes on a washboard,

hands so cold she could not feel.

As she grew into a beautiful

 young lady,

 she married young and

 began having babies.

She brought 4 of us into

 this world to make noise,

 first 2 girls and then

 2 boys.

 Life was still hard,

 we did not have much,

 but we could always

 count on mom's loving touch.

 Sometimes we would not

listen and get out of line,

but the swat of a flip flop

 taught us to mind.

 Over the years she

 became our best friend,

 but being our mother

 would never find an end.

 As a grandmother and great-granny

 she was always so sweet.

 Love spoiled us all with

 a delicious treat.

 A hug and a kiss

and piece of candy to go,

 somehow she could never

 tell grandchildren "no".

 Her nature was to worry

 over everyone else,

 never stressing to much

 about herself.

 Her memory and legacy

 she left for us behind,

 leaves us with enough

treasures to fill up a mine.

 We'll love you forever Mom,

 Granny, Grandma and Great-Granny.
