Florence Lane Mobley passed away on August 31, 2026, in Marietta, GA, following a period of declining health. Lane was born in the month of September 1945, in Fitzgerald, GA to Elmo Mobley and Mavis Downing Mobley. She is survived by brothers Byron (Barbara) of Fitzgerald, GA, Eugene of Good Hope, GA and Ennis (Jean) of Powder Springs, GA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
From an early age, Lane was a conscientious student and a talented musician. She was a member of her high school band and proudly played the trumpet in performances and competitions. Her intelligence, determination, and intensity would remain defining characteristics throughout her life.
Lane went on to build an accomplished career at a time when women were often undervalued and faced significant barriers in professional and leadership positions. She earned positions of responsibility and held professional clearances that placed her in rooms with high-ranking military officials and other leaders. Lane never hesitated to remind others that she belonged there and that her voice and expertise deserved to be heard.
To those who knew her, Lane's professional strength was inspiring. She demonstrated, particularly to the younger women in her family, that women could pursue positions of authority, contribute meaningfully, and create their own paths regardless of the limitations others placed upon them.
She will be remembered for her intelligence, musical talent, professional courage, fierce independence, devotion to family, and the many relationships she cultivated throughout her life.
A private service for Lane will be held at a later date.
