David Charles Gibson, age 78, of Smyrna, Georgia, was born on September 20, 1946 in Kennesaw, GA and sadly passed away at his home after a brief illness on September 5, 2025. He was raised by Polly Boring Gibson and Fred Joseph Gibson. David was a dedicated family man who was the first in his family to work his way through high school and college including law school, ultimately graduating with a Juris Doctorate degree. He was a hard worker, often working up to three jobs, including a factory job, to support his family with his first wife Louisa Elizabeth Gibson. David later pursued a career culminating as a Staff Attorney and Court Support Manager at the Fulton County State Court where he worked for over 35 years. He loved his job and the people he worked with so much that he never retired from this position. He was a member of the Smyrna First United Methodist Church where he served for years as an usher.
David had many passions in his life including travel, movies, family and the Georgia Bulldogs. His love of travel led him to go on several memorable trips, with the most adventurous being a 17-day tour of the Castles and Historic landmarks of Ireland and Scotland. He also had a wonderful month long 7,000 mile driving trip around the United States where he experienced everything from Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, to Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, to the Rocky Mountains and everything in between. He loved a huge variety of movies especially action/adventure, drama and science fiction. Most of all, his heart truly was touched by the love stories played out in romance movies and television. David worked hard to provide for his family and his romantic side helped him melt the heart of his wife. But his greatest passion aside from his family was his exuberant love for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. David was a super fan, anxiously awaiting each fall so he could watch college football games, playoffs and anything UGA. His desk was overflowing with UGA memorabilia as a testament to his love and pride in all things Bulldogs.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita Lorraine Gibson; his daughter, Jennifer Louise Gibson Lathouse; his stepdaughter, Jessica Lorraine Clerici and her husband John Peter Clerici, III, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Polly Boring Gibson; his father, Fred Joseph Gibson; his first wife, Louisa Elizabeth Gibson; and his sister Emma Jean Willabess Harris.
As we gather to remember David’s life and legacy, we invite friends and family to join us during the visitation to be held on Saturday, September 27th from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service to follow from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the West Cobb Funeral Home located at 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064.
