David Stephen Budner

September 10, 1936 — March 12, 2024

Marietta, GA

David Stephen Budner, 87, of Marietta, passed away peacefully Tuesday, 12 March 2024 surrounded by family. Services will be 2:00pm Saturday, 16 March 2024 at West Cobb Funeral Home, located at 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064.

The second of seven children born to Stephen and Margaret Budner, David was born in Catasauqua, PA on 10 September 1936 and retired from Lucent Technologies in Atlanta. Having served in the 1950s, David is a veteran of the United States Army. He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. David is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Jane Budner (née Maultsby), his parents, brothers Stephen, Gerald, and James, and sister Margaret.

Throughout his life, David exhibited a passion for technology and gift for creativity. At the age of 12, Dave (as he is known) started his life-long love affair with ham radio operations. He was a long-standing member of an amateur radio club (WEDIXIE / WB4MZO) in the metro Atlanta area. Through this passion, Dave, whose ham radio designation was WA4PUB, developed life-long friendships across the US and the world. In the early 1970s, he was able to directly speak to an astronaut during a NASA mission. In combining his gift of creativity with this passion of technology, he designed, built, and improved several amplifiers, antennas, radios, and much more. The original MacGyver, there was nothing Dave could not build, fix, nor improve.

Survivors include his son, David J. Budner (Shari); daughters, Deborah L. Halleck (Greg), Suzanne G. Budner, Sandra I. Budner, and Kathleen V. Kilgore (Maddox); grandchildren, Vanden L. Clanton (Lisa), John C. Teems (Candace), Katie G. Norris (Ryan), Nikolas W. Saul, Thomas A. Saul, Olivia GW Halleck, Virginia “Scotti” Kilgore, and Boston T. Budner; great-grandchildren, Levi V. Clanton and Luke C. Teems; sister, June E. Budner; and brother, Robert J. Budner.
