Connie Rice Dortch, age 81, of Powder Springs, GA passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, surrounded by her family after battling a lengthy illness.
She was born on February 8, 1945, in Flag Pond, Tennessee, to the late Frank Rice, Sr. and late Doris Rice Barnett.
Connie met the love of her life, Bob, in Atlanta in 1967. Less than a year later they were married—a beautiful union that happily endured for fifty-nine years and produced two beautiful daughters, Amy and Katie.
Connie found great joy in serving the Lord and her church. She was a devoted secretary at Lakeview Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she served faithfully for twenty-five years. She was also an avid gardener who found peace in tending to her flowers and nurturing everything she planted. She enjoyed crafting, reading, and traveling to the beach with her family and friends.
Connie loved returning to her childhood home in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. There, she spent cherished time with family, reconnecting with an area that always held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, Connie is preceded in death by her brother, Frank Rice, Jr.
Connie is survived by her husband: Bob Dortch; her children: Amy Dortch Weimann (Mark) and Catherine Dortch Poloche (Sonny); and her grandchildren: Allie Weimann, Emma Weimann, Max Weimann, and Cameron Poloche; siblings: Gail Rice Lawhon (Jim), James Rice (Lovenia), and many nieces and nephews.
To her grandchildren, who were the absolute pride of her life, she was simply and lovingly known as “Nana.”
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at West Cobb Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia, beginning at 10:00 am, with a Memorial Service to immediately follow at 11:00 am. Connie will be interred at Georgia National Cemetery in a private family gathering.
