Cecil Lamar Tapley, born on June 29, 1943, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on August 5, 2025, at Kennestone Hospital. Throughout his life, Cecil demonstrated unwavering dedication and generosity, traits that defined both his personal and professional endeavors.
Cecil embarked on a successful career as an air conditioning mechanic, contributing over 30 years of service at Lockheed Martin. His technical skills and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. He was known for his willingness to assist others, often going out of his way to help anyone in need.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Cecil proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. His military service was honored with a Commendation Medal, a testament to his bravery and dedication.
Cecil had a rich array of interests that brought joy to his life. He enjoyed taking drives to the mountains, seeking out treasures while shopping at yard sales, and watching Jimmy Swaggart. He cherished the time spent with his beloved dog, Charming, who was a constant companion and source of joy.
Cecil is survived by his son, Shawn Tapley; grandchildren, Zach Tapley and Spencer Tapley; and daughter-in-law, Greta Tapley. He is also remembered by many friends and acquaintances who were touched by his generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Tapley Sr. and Elizabeth Tapley; his brother, Tom Tapley; and his sister, Janice Bearden.
A graveside service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, on August 8, 2025. The service will commence at 2:30 PM, concluding at 3:00 PM.
Cecil Lamar Tapley leaves behind a legacy of generosity and hard work, which will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
