Mr. Cecil Guy McLendon, Sr., age 100, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at 12pm on Friday, April 4, 2025, in the chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Pastor Michael Boatfield officiating. Burial will follow at 2pm at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends Friday from 10am until 12pm prior to the ceremony at the funeral home.
A native of Jackson's Gap, Alabama, Mr. McLendon resided in the East Point and Atlanta area for many years before moving to Powder Springs. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Technician 5th Class during WWII in England and France. He did his undergraduate work at Emory University, then graduated with a law degree. Early in his career, he had worked for several companies, including Sears and Roebuck, Trust Company Bank of Atlanta, and with Ginn & Company as a sales representative providing textbooks for elementary and high schools all across the southeastern United States.
For the majority of his career, Mr. McLendon worked as a Real Estate, and Wills and Trusts Attorney in Sandy Springs. He was also a founding member and past president of the Cascade Civitan Club, former president of the Buckhead Civitan Club, and a founding member and past president of the Sandy Springs Civitan Club. He had a passion for how children learned in school, and he also loved studying history and bird watching.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean McLendon in 2014, and a daughter, Victoria McLendon in 2015.
Survivors include: 3 children, William F. (Kim) Riley, Jr., Mobile, AL, Karen Sou McLendon, Powder Springs, GA, and Cecil G. (Lei) McLendon, Jr., Sandy Springs, GA; grandchildren, Dr. William Fowler (Estelle) Riley III, Dr. Lauren Riley (David) Howell, and Edward Duval McLendon; step-grandchildren, Morgan Rae (Decatur) Lazenby and Mason Webb McConville; great-grandchildren, Chandler David Howell, Carter Riley Howell, Makers William Lazenby, Catherine Frances Howell, Townes Decatur Lazenby, and Linnea Wren Ruby Riley; sister-in-law, Martha Chandler Knight, and a multitude of loved Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
