Billie Goodwin

November 19, 1936 — May 25, 2025

Billie Goodwin, a beloved entrepreneur, artist, and cherished matriarch, passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on November 19, 1936, in Knoxville, TN, Billie was known not only for her remarkable talent in the world of arts and crafts but also for her loving spirit and vibrant personality.

A talented seamstress and artist, Billie owned several arts and craft stores where she poured her heart into every creation. She brought joy to countless people through her artwork and custom draperies and clothing. Billie's passion for painting and sewing was not just a hobby; it was a way of expressing her boundless creativity that illuminated the lives of all who knew her.

As an energetic and fun-loving individual, Billie had an undeniable gift for making everyone feel welcomed in her home. Her family and friends remember her infectious sense of humor and the warmth with which she embraced everyone. Whether it was sharing a hilarious childhood story or laughing together during trampoline antics with her youngest grandson or comical adventures with her two oldest grandchildren, she ensured that time spent with her was filled with love and laughter.

Billie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She adored her children, Debra Hicks Wynne, Sharon Kay Southern, Janella Hicks, and Gary Ronald Goodwin Jr., and took immense pride in her grandchildren, Brandi Powell, Andrew Southern, and Ethan Goodwin. She was also a treasured great-grandmother to Michael and Brady Powell. Her greatest accomplishment, she would say, was the love she nurtured within her family, ensuring that they each felt valued and supported.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gary R. Goodwin, who stood by her side through every adventure; her sister, Juanita Banks Leach; and brother, John Norman, along with her sister-in-law Judy Norman and numerous nieces and nephews who were fortunate enough to know her special kind of love.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ida Mae Collins Norman, and siblings Joyce Norman Morgan, Earl Norman, and Frieda Norman Dailey. Their lasting absence is felt deeply by those who loved Billie, as she carried pieces of them in her heart throughout her life.

As we say goodbye to Billie Goodwin, we hold close the memories of her laughter, her creativity, and her unwavering love. She was truly one of a kind, a beacon of light for her family and friends, whose warmth will be missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love and artistry will continue to inspire all who were lucky enough to know her.
