Andrew Lee Blackman was born on November 21, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Henry and Clara Blackmon. His life was marked by faith, family, service, and a love for teaching and encouraging others. He departed this life on September 11, 2026, at the age of 72.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His career began in 1972 and took him to duty stations throughout the United States and abroad, including assignments aboard several U.S. Navy ships. He rose to the rank of E-8 before concluding his active-duty career in 1997 after 25 years of honorable service. On March 13, 1984, he married Jeroline “Jaye”, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.
A minister, lifelong student of Scripture, and Bible teacher, he graduated from Carver Bible College in Atlanta in 2010. He was a member and deacon of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a minister under the leadership of Pastor Larry E. Bailey. A teacher at heart, he could quote Scripture like nobody’s business and was always ready with a word of wisdom or advice. Whether in church, during Bible study, or simply in conversation, he enjoyed sharing God’s Word and encouraging others to keep Christ at the center of their lives.
Outside of his ministry and service, he knew how to enjoy life. A devoted Alabama football fan, he also supported the Atlanta Falcons, and he and Jaye enjoyed attending NFL, NBA, WNBA, and other sporting events together. He loved taking long walks and staying active. During his years receiving dialysis, he found a special community at DaVita Dialysis Center, where friendships formed during treatment grew into relationships he treasured.
As the years passed, some of his greatest joy came from life’s simplest blessings. Having his family together, seeing their smiling faces, and knowing the people he loved were healthy and doing well brought him genuine happiness. Faith, family, health, togetherness, and gratitude were what mattered most.
He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel; his brothers, Marion, Hank, and Johnny; and his sisters, Dorothy and Gloria. He is survived by his wife, Jaye (Linen) Blackman; children Monica, Christian, and Denzel; grandchildren Alysia, Amani, Devon and Allen Jr.; great-grandchildren Baari and Breece; brothers Henry (Minnie) and Bennie (Joanne); dear family friend and longtime neighbor Fran; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
He will be remembered for the wisdom and encouragement he freely shared, his service to his country, his devotion to those he loved, and a faith that remained at the foundation of his life.
Forever loved. Always remembered. And in true Andrew fashion - “ROLL TIDE!”
