William Douglas Eidson

June 19, 1925 — January 3, 2012

William Douglas Eidson died on January 3, 2012, at 86 years of age. He passed away due to complications from congestive heart failure, at Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA. He was born on June 19, 1925, in Atlanta, GA, to William Carl and Mattie Valeria Eidson. Bill was a graduate of North Fulton High School.

Bill served our nation during WWII from 1943-1946, in the 4th and 6th Divisions of the United States Marine Corps. As part of the infamous “Fighting Fourth Marine Division of WWII” he participated in the Pacific War Campaigns of Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and also fought in Okinawa and served in post war operations. Other service included the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves through 1957.

After receiving his Honorable Discharge, Bill attended Marsh Business School in Atlanta and later began in 1952 his full-time career in accounting with Yancey Bros. Co., the nation’s oldest Caterpillar® dealer. He worked and retired there after 38 years of employment.

He married Mary Ann Holcomb on May 25, 1957, at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church. He attended Rock Spring from the age of three, later becoming an active member and Elder including Elder Emeritus. Bill founded Boy Scout Troup 28 which is still an active troop of the Church today. Bill also served as the Church’s long time Treasurer for over 20 years. He also served his community with countless years dedicated to the North Decatur Youth Association including service as President. He and his wife lived in Decatur, GA for 42 years and Powder Springs, GA for 8 years.

He is survived by his daughter Carla Eidson Pierce, son-in-law Jeffery A. Pierce, and grandson Jason M. Pierce; and his sons J. Christopher Eidson and Charles A. Eidson, and their families. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jackie Allen Eidson, several nieces, a nephew, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Holcomb Eidson; son, William D. Eidson, Jr.; and brother, Carl Thomas Eidson.

A graveside service will be held at 2pm at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, January 7, 2012. The Rev. Karen Allamon, Pastor, Rock Spring Presbyterian Church, will officiate the service. For more information, please contact West Cobb Funeral Home at www.westcobbfuneralhome.com .
