Thomas Bastion

Thomas James Bastion, 78, of Manistee, Michigan and formerly Lapeer, MI, passed away on September 19, 2018, in Dallas, GA from complications related to Lewy Body dementia. In hospice care for 9 months prior to his death, Tom died peacefully surrounded by family.
Tom was born December 21, 1939 in Flint, MI, the son of Thomas Henry Bastion and Marie (Wentz) Bastion. He graduated from Flint Northern in 1957, attended Michigan Technical University and later graduated from the University of Michigan. Tom retired at age 52 from General Motors after 35 years of service, starting as an apprentice tool maker in Flint's tank plant and finishing his career leading a team of engineers for AC Delco.
For most of his adult life, Tom resided in Lapeer, Michigan. He married Anna (Ross) Bastion, on December 2, 1977 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He retired to Manistee, MI in 1993 and was an active member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Little Manistee River Watershed Conservation Council. Tom enjoyed travelling, fishing, snowmobiling, fixing things, his grandchildren, peanut MandMs, bonfires and spending time in nature.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Anna (Ross) Bastion who died April 23, 2017 in Cadillac, MI.
Tom is survived by his sister Helen (Don) Hodges of Flushing, MI, the mother of his two children, Carol (Moll) Bastion DeClercq of Otter Lake, MI, stepson Marshall "Doc" (Michelle) Street of Dryden, MI, daughter Wynette (Daniel) Asquino of Plymouth, MA, stepdaughter Denise (Lee) Grotzinger of Sedalia, MO, son Bradley (Jennifer) Bastion of Powder Springs, GA, and 9 grandchildren - Michael Street, Andrew Ellis, Heather (Grotzinger) Sayers, Jessica (Ellis) Cox, Mitchel Bastion, Nicole Asquino, Allison Asquino, Maureen Bastion and Raymond Asquino.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manistee, MI with Rev. Dr. James Friesner officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tom's name may be directed to: Lewy Body Dementia Association, www.LBDA.org < http://www.LBDA.org > and Little Manistee River Watershed Conservation Council, www.LMWCC.org < http://www.LMWCC.org >.
