Richard Worthington Cree

June 22, 1927 — September 2, 2012

Richard W. “Dick” Cree, age 85, of Marietta passed away Sunday, Sept. 2.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Cree served in the Merchant Marine and the Army, participating in the Berlin Airlift and in the Korean War. After retiring from the Army, he had a 20-year career in finance and banking. In his second retirement, he worked for Reeves Wholesale Florist, delivering flowers to local florists throughout Georgia.

The job he loved the most, however, was serving as Santa Claus for many years at several locations, including at Town Center Mall. A natural Santa, Mr. Cree was popular with children wherever he went, and he always took time to talk and laugh with them.

Predeceased by his son Jack, Mr. Cree is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; two nieces, Sandra Hutto (Michael) and Sharon Heard (Timothy); grandnephew Reid Heard and grandniece Emma Heard.

A service celebrating his life will be Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 175 West Sandtown Rd., Marietta 30064, with the Rev. Rusty Edwards officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, Georgia 30346.

West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, Marietta is in charge of arrangements. Online guest book at westcobbfuneralhome.com.
