Norman Maurise Spruill

June 14, 1961 — April 15, 2012

Norman Maurise Spruill departed this life on April 15, 2012. Norm, as he was affectionately known, was a resident of Riverdale, Georgia. He was born on June 14, 1961, the only son of Omelia and Willie Norman Spruill in Washington, D.C., where he spent his early years. Later, he moved with the family to reside in Warren County, North Carolina.

After graduating from Vance High School in Henderson, North Carolina in 1979, he attended North Carolina A & T for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. During his military service he received advanced military police training at Fort Stewart, Georgia and completed undergraduate studies at Ashworth University, Norcross, Georgia. He served in the military for four years and received an honorable discharge in December 1986.

In the occupational arena, Norm served extensively as a law enforcement professional supporting U.S. military operations in third-world hostile environments that engage in conflicts, wars, political unrest and terroristic activity.

United in holy matrimony to Yvette Denise Clayborne Spruill, the couple blended their union with their four children: Briana Spruill, Christopher Clayborne, Ashley Clayborne and Anna Spruill.

Norm “Ole School” Spruill, as he was sometimes called, was a solid friend and mentor to many. He never fully realized the extent of the positive affect he had on the lives of others. He was well loved and known to be cool, calm and “sweatless.” Extraordinary in strength of character and belief, he possessed a great love for the Lord and his family. He was a loving husband and devoted father, who loved extremely hard and expected the same from others. His guiding motto was, “complete what you start.”

Preceding him in death are his parents. He leaves to mourn his wife, Yvette, three daughters, Briana, Ashley and Anna; one son, Christopher; five aunts, Levonia Spruill Jones, Edna Spruill Hill, Georgia Spruill Hill, Dorothy Spruill Monroe (Roscoe), Vera Spruill; two uncles, Reverend Nesbitt Spruill (Dot), and Harold Spruill (Carrie); mother- and father-in-law, Catherine and Albert Armstrong; sisters-in-law, Montien Wagnac and Jeanine Armstrong; cousins, Everette Renee Crosson and Omelia Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Norm died doing what he loved best: on the battlefield fighting for his loved ones and his country.

A graveside service will be held at 12pm on Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
