Matthew Benjamin Dyas, age 20, of Acworth, GA passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at 5pm on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church in Powder Springs with Rev. Mike Stephens officiating.
Although Matt was born in Charlotte, North Carolina he lived most of his life in the Acworth-Kennesaw area. Having graduated with honors from Harrison High School in 2009, he received a scholarship from the University of West Georgia and was a promising young athlete on the UWG golf team. He was a member of the All-Tournament Team and recently won his first collegiate golf tournament in Opelika, Alabama. Matt worked for several years at the Brookstone Country Club in Acworth, Georgia where his love for the game of golf first began. With an abiding love rooted in his strong Christian faith, Matt traveled on 2 mission trips to Russia and the Ukraine to lend a helping hand and share the word of God.
Matt was a bright light in this world; a shining star whose very presence could make even your darkest days seem a little less dreary. Always smiling, quick with a hug, generous, courteous, full of life, and true to his faith are just a few of the words used to described just how special Matt was to all who had the pleasure of being able to call him “friend.” As an athlete, Matt had a talent unmatched by most kids his age. He excelled at all sports, but it was his love of golf that provided him with the most joy. With a dream of one day making the PGA Tour, he was well on his way to meeting that goal. In his 20 short years, Matt touched a lot of people. He never met a stranger. This awesome, fun-loving young man whose light may be a little dimmer here on earth, is shining brightly now, never to be dimmed, all the while keeping a watchful eye on those of us who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his beautiful life.
