Linda Louise Zelmer

April 5, 1947 — October 6, 2018

Linda Louise Skogley Zelmer passed from this life on Saturday evening 6 October 2018 in Kennestone Hosptial, Marietta, GA. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - Paper Mill Ward in Marietta. Interment will follow on Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, Illinois.

Linda was born 5 April 1947 in Medford, Taylor Co., Wisconsin to Charlie Harris Skogley and Marjorie Louise Bates. Linda grew up in the Peoria/Marquette Heights areas of Illinois, attending elementary and high school in the Pekin, Tazewell Co., Illinois area. She worked in the television broadcast industry until she married Donald E Zelmer on 3 Sep 1968. Employment required a move to the Olney, Richland Co., Illinois area where she and her family lived for 12 years before moving in 1980 to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois. While in Olney, she attended Olney Central College. Linda and her family moved to Marietta, Cobb Co., Georgia in early 1992 where she resided with her husband, Grandchild and 2 Great Grandchildren at her death.
In 1968, Linda and her husband joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Their marriage was sealed for time and all eternity on 26 January 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple of our God. Most of her life, she was very active in the Church having served in various Stake, Ward, and Branch callings. Linda did more than 10,000 family history name extractions in the early extraction program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She and her husband are the parents of 6 children, Melynda Benjamin of Lexington, Ky, Steven Zelmer of Champaign, Illinois, Jared Zelmer of Round Rock, Texas, Pepper Brown of Kingwood, Texas, Aaron Samuel Zelmer of London, England, and Esther Glazebrook of Kingwood, Texas.
Linda was especially fond of the animal kingdom and worked several years in the veterinarian profession where she was especially effective in resuscitating new-born puppies. She taught herself to knit in her 20's and was actively involved in knitting mittens for those in the leprosy colonies. She was an active quilter, expert seamstress, and always involved with various hand crafts. She was also an expert in the art of short-hand, a developed talent that is no longer used in the business community. She was very articulate in all of her knitting and was known to rip out ½ of a sweater (and re-knit the piece) if she found one missing stich in the garment.
Her love of people was well know and she was always willing to give the coat off of her back to a person walking on a snowy, wintery day (particularly if she felt the person was under clothed). Linda would give her last dollar to people on the road-side asking for help-she was very generous to the down-trodden.
Linda traveled the world extensively with her husband Don and enjoyed the diversity of various cultures she encountered. She was particularly fond of the older women in Eastern Europe that were commonly found selling hand-made scarves and such at city markets. Even if she was not familiar with the language, she would somehow find a way to communicate with the person and make a purchase which helped the individual.
Linda loved her children and was always ready to do anything to help and/or assist them in any way. Her somewhat failing health cumulated in her suffering a lung failure which led to her untimely death on Saturday 6 October 2018 in Marietta, GA. She was 71 years old. She leaves a husband, 6 children (4 spouses), 15 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
We will all miss her.
