Lila Mae Burns

April 16, 1928 — July 27, 2018

Kennesaw, GA
Lila M. (Barnhart) Burns, 90, formerly of Muncie, IN and Mentor, OH, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2018 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice facility. She joins her husband Russell and daughter Tami in their Heavenly home.

Lila was born on April 16, 1928 in Niles, Ohio to Floyd and Margaret Barnhart and graduated from Niles McKinley High School. She married Russell Burns on May 30, 1959 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 2015. Together, they served the Lord at Painesville Assembly of God and New Promise Church (Ohio) and Grace Baptist Church (Indiana).

Lila worked in food service accounting for Century Foods and Mentor Public Schools for many years before her retirement in 1999. While she enjoyed her work, Lila's greatest joy was being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was well known for her pies at family gatherings and church socials. She loved singing hymns, reading, time with friends, and family camping trips. She volunteered her time for Music Mentors and Top 25 Parents organizations in Mentor Schools and the Leukemia Society of America. Lila was also a big fan of the Cleveland Indians and followed them closely for many seasons.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Scott Inks, and grandchildren, Ethan and Natalie of Powder Springs, GA; two sisters, Peggy Thornsberry and Loretta Butler, both of Niles, OH; and dear friends Dennis and Shirley Green (Muncie, IN) and Bill and Jan Harman (Painesville, OH).

She was preceded in death by four brothers (Reed, Ray, Ralph, and Lorain), and one sister, Annabel Anderson.

A service of prayer and celebration will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at New Promise Church, 8671 Euclid Chardon Rd, Kirtland, OH. 44094. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30am and there will be a time of fellowship following the service. Pastor Dale Diggs will officiate. Private burial will be at the Mentor Cemetery.

The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at The Overlook at Cedarcrest Assisted Living (Acworth, GA) and Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice (Kennesaw, GA) for the loving care of their mom.

Memorial donations may be made in Lila's honor to the Mentor Public Library, 8215 Mentor Ave. Mentor, OH 44060 or Kennedy Library, 1700 McGalliard Rd. Muncie, IN 47304.
