Laura Jeanette Crawley

December 22, 1934 — November 7, 2017

Wife, Mother, Sister, Friend

Laura Jeanette Crawley, age 82 of Marietta passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017. The family will receive friends at West Cobb Funeral and Crematory, Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 11am until 1pm. Laura moved to this area sixty years ago from Soddy-Daisy, TN. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Fair Oaks United Methodist Church.

It if existed, Laura Crawley would have achieved a Master’s in Domestic Engineering. She defined the profession of Homemaker excelling in many skills for the home and other professions. A classic southern cook, Laura valued beautifully presented food and table scapes. She had a bountiful garden for many years and practiced all varieties of food preservation. Her gardening extended beyond vegetables and her beautiful backyard displayed her landscape design skills. Laura’s home was evident of her love for interior design and she personally crafted curtains, pillows, upholstered and refurbished furniture. Her fabric arts ranged from sewing and tailoring clothing to all varieties of needlework, quilting, crewel embroidery, knitting, crochet and the Swedish art of hardanger.

Incredibly well read, Laura traveled the world through books. She had a passion for classical music. Laura’s charity works were well known but she always wished her contributions to remain anonymous or low key. She participated in the church ladies knitting group, self titled “The Knit Wits” where they made hats for chemo patients, tiny caps for premature babies and gloves and scarves for our troops overseas. Intelligent, proud and private, she was also caring, giving, and loved by so many whose lives she touched.

Laura is survived by her husband, H. Dean Crawley; daughters, Mary C. Meyers and Donna C. Southwick; sister, Bettye Beene; and brothers, Thomas and John Love. Contributions can be made to Breast Cancer research and prevention or the Good Mews Animal Shelter.
