Jon Mahon

July 19, 1951 — October 21, 2019

Jon Mahon was born the youngest of four children to Dudley and Matrid Mahon on July 19, 1951. He lived a blessed life for sure, growing up on the beautiful island of Barbados where he attended St. Martin’s Primary School and later Princess Margaret Secondary School. After his studies, Jon began working as a seaman and later as a chemist at Porter’s Sugar Cane Factory. His life in the United States began in 1973, when he immigrated to New York. He continued his education studying ultra-sound technology. Two years later, on June 29, 1975, Jon married his forever love, Gleneth Field, aka Judy, whom he predicted he would marry at the age of 16, and together they raised two daughters, Jehan and Deidre along with Jon’s children, Brent and Sonja.

True to his roots, Jon loved all things Bajan: being around the sea, fish cakes and coconut bread, potato pudding, black cake, and especially Eclipse biscuits. Some of Jon’s favorite past times included being a loyal Nascar racing fan, tending to his yard, playing dominoes, cars and electronics, and spending time with the family dog, Bombay while watching wilderness TV shows and sitting on the deck.

Jon was a believer of the Lord and always knew to trust in Him. It was Jon’s strong faith in the Lord that allowed him to face life’s many challenges. Our dear Jon was taken too soon as he leaves behind to cherish his memories his devoted wife Judy; his children Brent, Sonja, Jehan, and Deidre; his grandchildren Anashah, Jaelen, Jorden, John, Jasmine, Danielle, and Victoria; great grandchildren Santana, Hannah, Aamir, Sunnie, and Moses; his mother Matrid; his siblings Keith, Maida, and Cheryl; his daughter-in-law Pam and son-in-law Thomas; his sister-in-laws Wende, Heather, and Carnette, brother-in-laws Michael, Glen, Earl, and Philip; beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and the much loved family dog, Bombay who he called Bom.

Other relatives include the Carters, Alleynes, Smiths, Braithwaites, and Greenidges in Barbados. With so many loved ones to cherish his memories, Jon will certainly not be forgotten, but will remain in our hearts throughout time. WE LOVE YOU!
