Howard K. Sanders

October 13, 1938 — May 28, 2018

By an act of God, Howard King Sanders, Sr. died peacefully on May 28, 2018.
His earthly journey began at birth in Skipperton, Georgia to Jessie King and Evelyn Woolfolk October 13, 1938. He was lovingly raised by his mother, Evelyn and father William Sanders as the eldest of seven children.
Howard attended primary school in Macon, Georgia and was a proud graduate of Ballard Hudson High School. He received an associate degree from Palm Beach Junior College and a bachelor’s degree with honors in Accounting from Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY. While living in New York, He was employed as a Correction Officer and as a Transit Authority Towerman in the NY Transit System.
In 1976, Howard moved his family to North Carolina, where after 29 years of dedicated service with State Government, including 19 years with NC Dept. of Transportation he retired as a Public Accountant in 2006.
As a life-long learner, he later obtained his Real Estate and Broker’s license.
Howard, a fearless dynamo, spoke his mind regarding Biblical Truths and Civil Rights.
A man of action, he walked out his convictions as he marched in Washington D.C. to support Martin Luther King; as he worked the polling precincts to encourage voting within the community and even as he gave rides to men stranded on the street.
He also worked diligently serving faithfully within several positions including Trustee at Laodicea Church, Raleigh, NC; Leader within the Boys Scouts, Men’s Fellowship, and Deacon’s Board along with serving in the community at Hosea Feed the Hungry in Atlanta, GA as an active member of Become Church.
Howard, a family man, relished in spending time with his family at large which included cousins, aunts, uncles and siblings. He seemed to never meet a stranger as he befriended many in his neighborhood, post office and even the grocery store.
He leaves to cherish his memories: A devoted wife, of fifty-two years, Lula Hoskin Sanders; two loving daughters and a loving son; Rhonda (Ron) Cartmell of Hendersonville, TN; Howard (Tecla) King Sanders II, Acworth, GA; and Angela (Christopher) Sanders of Kennesaw, GA; seven grandchildren, Howard K. U. Sanders III, Leon J. Sanders, Alexis J. Sanders, Ariana J. Sanders, Taylor M. Gillespie, Noah Brooks, and Christian M. Brooks; two brothers William Sanders, Jr. of Tampa, FL, Alex Todd Sanders of Pearland, TX; Five sisters, Elizabeth King Wash of Macon Ga, Anne Sanders of Bronx, New York, Evelyn (Frank) Ellison of West Palm Beach, FL, Bevelyn (Michael) Stringer of Los Angeles, CA, Verna Rose Sanders of Tampa, FL, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Howard was an exemplary strong, loving, caring, gentleman and specifically a lover and supporter of family and others. He will be missed thoroughly by all who knew and loved him.
