Obituary:
Gregory Lon Songstad (age 73) passed away suddenly March 24th 2021 approximately 2:00am, after a very long battle with cancer, (in which Greg choose not to seek chemo treatment or surgery), while living comfortably at Blue Grass Personal Care Home in Douglasville, Georgia.
Ms. Maxine Mooney (CNA) Owner and Director of Blue Grass PCH, offering companionate care for seniors, had made sure Greg received very good care while he was living there. Maxine was at Greg’s side for hours before he passed. We are very grateful for the loving care he received in his two month stay there.

Greg was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1947, grew up and graduated high school in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Having lived in many different states in his life, his first marriage was Oct. 1970 to Angela Reeves. He & Angela lived in several locations in Minnesota and then Georgia.

Greg remarried to Sharon Bellows, 1990, they lived in Arizona with Sharon’s three children; Keith, Yvonne & Kimmett Bellows who are now married with children, (listed below). Unfortunately Sharon (Bellows) Songstad passed away in 2001 from cancer. Greg eventually settled in Mississippi where he lived for several years before finally coming to Georgia to be close to his Children, Jesse & Michelle.

Greg’s Sister, Andrea Philipsek (Andi) came from Minnesota to visit Greg, as well as Greg’s Children, Grandchildren and first wife Angela came to see him several times during his time at Blue Grass PCH.

Greg was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a medic in that conflict. Greg enlisted in the US Army January of 1968, fought in Vietnam from July 1969 to July of 1970. Married his first wife October 1970 and received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army in 1971 but final and official was 1974.
Greg has two children with his first wife, Angela. In 1972 Greg & Angela had a son, Jesse L. Songstad and 1974 a daughter, Michelle L. Songstad (now Michelle L. Chapman.) Both children married and gave Greg 3 grandchildren, (listed below.)

In Greg’s last 20 years of life, his passion was for JESUS CHRIST and the study of GOD’s Holy Word was where he spent most of his time. Though Greg was able to work part-time as a security guard; during the majority of his working career, Greg’s major occupation and passion was for cooking for fine dining. That was Greg’s greatest professional achievement, as a Chef at several restaurants throughout his life beginning with “Ember’s Restaurant in Minneapolis Minnesota” to “Steak & Ale Fine Dining, in Atlanta Georgia” and many others.

Also Greg and Sharon did enjoy taking part in Clown ministry as shown in one of the video pictures.
