Gordon was born on June 3, 1938 in Anniston, Alabama to Majors Victor and Beatrice Tidman. He was the youngest of four boys. His maternal grandparents were from Lancashire and Yorkshire, England; his mother, Beatrice, was born in Toronto, Canada. Gordon's father was born in Coventry, England of Salvation Army soldier parents, who immigrated to Kingston, Ontario when he was very young. Gordon's parents were married in October, 1928 in Toronto, Canada. They were among the pioneer officers of the Southern Territory of the Salvation Army, serving as the Commanding Officers at Dothan and Anniston, AL. Other corps appointments were Birmingham, AL, Meridian MS, Pensacola, FL, Oklahoma City, OK, Little Rock, AR, Atlanta, GA, and Baltimore, MD.

While Gordon's parents were with the Salvation Army in Atlanta, GA, he attended Henry Grady High School, where he met his future wife Sandra. Gordon graduated in 1957 from Baltimore City College, Baltimore, MD.

Gordon was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served from 1959 - 1963.

Gordon married Sandra Ellen Williamson on March 17, 1962 at Hunter's Air Force Base in Savannah, GA. They lived in Savannah for a year before returning to Atlanta and upon their return, Gordon was hired by Lockheed-Georgia Company in April, 1963. Gordon retired from Lockheed in the fall of 2003 after almost 41 years of service.

Gordon is survived by wife, Sandra, 2 daughters, Jenny Tidman of Smyrna, GA and Laurie Tidman Chau of Smyrna, GA, 2 grandchildren, Ethan and Emerysn Chau, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Beatrice (Isherwood) and his brothers, Sherwood, Victor, Oliver.

Gordon was a member of Macland Presbyterian Church, Powder Springs, GA.

Life can be so cruel and unfair, Gordon worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He was always devoted to us. He enjoyed a few years of retirement and the early years of his grandchildren but then came the Alzheimer's Disease. Sadly, his grandchildren will never know him the way we did when we were little girls. He was quite funny but the disease took that away from him along with many other things. He died way too soon.
