George Brogdon

January 11, 1934 — January 21, 2021

George Brogdon, 87, died of natural causes on January 21, 2021. He was a native of Cobb County and attended McEachern High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Nell Finch, and together they began a life of adventure. His Navy career brought him to the Pacific aboard the USS Summit County LST 1146 during the Korean War and participating in Operation Castle (testing of the first hydrogen bombs). From there they traveled to Adana, Turkey where he spent many years working for the Tumpane Contracting Company as a Crash Fire Chief. Moving on to Pacific Architect and Engineering Defense Contractor he was a Crash Fire Chief in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive. After returning back to the states he began his 25 year career with the Cobb County Fire Department receiving numerous awards such as Firefighter of the Year. During that time he was instrumental in implementation of the innovative 411 emergency fire call center for Cobb County, which eventually became "911". In his retirement he was an avid gardener, traveling the United States on motorcycle, RV or whatever took him down the road. His greatest joy was passing on his love of gardening and passion for travel to his beloved granddaughters Diana and McLain.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Finch Brogdon, son Mark Brogdon and brother Jack Brogdon. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Brogdon Fussell, granddaughter Diana Fussell, son Sam Brogdon and granddaughter McLain Brogdon. His surviving siblings are Tom Brogdon, Doris Hames, Ann Alley and Patsy Cole.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 25, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
